A Valentine’s Day Message

♥ ♥ ♥

Twenty-seven years ago, on my wife's birthday, I surprised her with a six month old Shih Tzu girl. Her name was Baba's Joy, given the first names of her parents. We kept her name but personalized it by calling her Baba Joy.

That's how it all began. No vacation where we couldn't take her, a baby sitter when we went out, shopping at stores that allowed us to bring her with us, and so on. It was a major change in our lives, but one we gladly adjusted to it. And I forgot to mention, she came to work with us every single day of her life. We became known as the real estate company with the Shih Tzu. Something that was later exploited by other company's.

Why am I writing about our Baba Joy in this
Valentine’s Day Letter?

Because Valentine's Day is the day we reach out and express our love to those dearest to us. And how do we express this love? With gifts and flowers, teddy bears, pajama grams ... Well the flowers only live for a week or two if you're lucky, the teddy bears end up collecting dust and the pajamas, well they weren't her style and didn't fit right to begin with.

So what is the perfect Valentine's gift?
For us, it was a birthday gift given twenty-seven years ago that brought love, laughter and a life style we could never replace, but continue to enjoy with our current Baba Joy's, not all Shih Tzu's.

Baba Joy and our wonderful dogs over the years are the reason for Shih Tzu Rescue. For every Baba Joy that finds a loving home there is a Baba Joy that is homeless, afraid and has no one to share her love with. So, instead of flowers, teddy bears, and pajama grams this Valentine's Day, give the gift of love. The love you will receive in return will truly surprise you.
